Everyone has heard of Russian Roulette, The Formal is a high-stakes contest based on this well known lethal game. Only in the Formal the rules are different. Based in the same universe as the author’s Mortal Series, this stand-alone novel follows the journey of contestants and bettors during the largest Formal ever held.
50 contestants are slated to participate. The bets are high-stakes. The one contestant left standing at the end will win five million dollars. As in Russian Roulette, there is a single bullet in the chamber of a revolver. The major difference - you aren’t pointing the gun at yourself. Standing in a circle each contestant points the gun at the head in front of them. Will the gun go off? There’s an 83.3% chance of survival.
The uber-wealthy rise and fall during Formals, everything the contestants do can be wagered on, from what they eat in the morning, to whom they spend their nights with.
The individual tales of contestants weave and flow, moving the narrative along. Populated with vampires, this story grabbed me at once. I recommend this book to any lover of bloody vampire tales.
