The remains of giant AI machines have been found scattered across the galaxy. Their brain cores - though dead - provide significant technological advancements. A few individuals have found ‘Metal Hunting’ to be a productive - if not quite legal - enterprise. Due to the extreme age of the AI’s, not a single functioning braincore has ever been found in the centuries of human space exploration.
Priyanka, a junk merchant, has been hired to find the braincore of a specific Giant Metal AI. Before she can get a good look at where the signal originated, the arrival of an old warship chases Priyanka and her crew from the junkyard. Unable to trust her crew mates or the mysterious signal her ship receives, doubts fill her mind.
Could the signal be a trap, or a hoax? Is one of her own crew members betraying her? Is the AI still functional? Only by climbing deep into the depths of the junkyard will she be able to discover the truth.
I enjoyed the story. The short paragraphs pull you in, and keep you turning the page. The characters spoke to me, and I could feel the anxiety and anguish Priyanka was going through. This author definitely has a way with words. Purchase links are below.
