Nadeem's Journey

by Sherine Anniruth

“His strength, courage, and confidence throughout his illness was something I used to conquer my fears. If my child could display such courage, I had to put my fears aside.”This is a mother’s story. A mother’s strength and courage in the face of adversity and heartbreak.
Forced to be strong for her other children while facing the prospect of her eldest having cancer, Sherine relied on her faith to see her through. Nadeem began going to the Youth Cancer Center for Mesothelioma. They were compassionate, and Nadeem’s emotional support and advocate during his journey.
Nadeem worsens and his cancer progresses to stage four. But most of Nadeem’s worries have nothing to do with the cancer. He’s mostly worried about his mom.
Nadeem doesn’t respond well to the two chemo sessions, and his doctors suggest a chemo trial. The chemo trial has a $7000 price tag the government won’t cover. With a GoFundMe, and the help of friends, family, and strangers; the family was able to pay for the trial.
This memoir is filled with photos from Nadeem’s life. The author fully immerses the reader in her life. I was in tears. This is an emotional book. Losing any of your children is difficult to face. Losing them to cancer is devastating.
