Doppelgänger

2020

By Patrick J Murphy III

Matt, a curious young man, finally gathers his courage and enters a store his mother would never approve of. The Mystic Gypsy Moon is an occult pagan shop in his town. His mother considers anyone who shops there to be “devil-worshipers”. Though discomforted by the noise the crystals made, Matt chose a green stone with black veins. Just holding the stone filled him with warmth and contentment.

Every time he holds the stone in his hand, he loses more and more time. His dreams turn into nightmares. Scared by his visions, he returns to the store for help. The owner of the store binds and cleanses the stone to help prevent the nightmares. Matt follows all of the instructions, he asks for cleansing from the Goddess and God, and throws the stone into the river. When he returns home the stone is waiting on his computer. Every time he tries to get rid of it, it returns.

The dream sequences in the story made my skin crawl. If you like horror and short stories, I recommend this book.
